ATTENDANCE
California law requires all persons of school age to attend school full-time. Regular and punctual attendance is important. Students who are ill should stay at home. If your child is absent, please telephone or email the school on the day of the absence. The student who returns from an absence without a prior phone call or email
must bring a note signed by a parent or guardian.
ARRIVE ON TIME
School begins at 8:55am. There is a warning bell at 8:50am and the starting bell at 8:55am. After 9:10 a.m., students must go to the office. According to state law, a child who has been tardy three times for 30 minutes or more is classified as a truant.
ABSENCE FOR VACATION
Parents who take their student out of school on vacations are at risk of being declared a Legal Truant. If a child is absent more than 10% of the school days, it is considered excessive and medical verification may be required for every absence. Each case will be considered individually and the parent will be notified by mail, phone or in a face-to-face meeting. Lack of compliance could result in truancy proceedings. Days taken for family vacation when school is in session are counted as unexcused absences.
WITHDRAWAL OF STUDENTS
If you are moving and are withdrawing your student from school, please call the school a few days prior to your move at (408) 535-6265. This will give ample time to complete the necessary paperwork.
LEAVING SCHOOL GROUNDS
During the school session, no student is permitted to leave the school grounds unless the student has been signed out in the office. Students may not be dismissed during school time unless they are picked up by an adult listed on the student’s emergency card. Please come to the office to check-out your student.
ILLNESS OR EMERGENCIES
Willow Glen Elementary has a Health Aide. If a student must be sent home, the parent or guardian will be contacted to pick up the student. The emergency card is used to contact parents or guardians in case of illness or an emergency at school. Please keep school records up to date with current phone numbers, addresses, or places you may be reached. The school MUST be able to reach you in an emergency. If your child has health problems the school needs to be aware of, please contact the school health office at (408) 535-6265.
